Sweet Donkey is the brainchild of Ann-Maree White and Dustin Eshelman, and they are excited to bring the cutting-edge coffee of Counter Culture to Roanoke.

"How did you come up with Sweet Donkey?" Well, the donkey became an essential pack animal for harvesting coffee from high elevations in the early days of coffee cultivation. Due to improvements in cultivation and farming practices, coffee is now grown at all elevations and climates around the world thus prompting the donkey to become obsolete.

THE ART OF SPACE:

The ambiance of space completes an experience! Sweet Donkey invites each customer to step into our "home" and sit by the fire on a cool morning or out on the porch or patio while the sun is shining. Our house was built in 1922 and we've attempted to capture the time period in our design while incorporating the high-tech equipment needed to serve you only be best coffee and teas!

COFFEE:

Friends and business partners, Ann-Maree White and Dustin Eshelman, have strived to bring a new way of enjoying coffee to Roanoke and are finally ready to share it with you! Just as craft brewers of beer and dedicated vinters of wine work meticulously to bring out the natural flavors of each grain or type of grape, Sweet Donkey brews coffee to showcase the unique flavor of each bean rather than the intensity of the roast it recieves. We want you to experience the natural citrus, vanilla, chocolate, or even rasberry flavor that often seeps into each cup or espresso or french press coffee. The taste is truly amazing - smooth, light, and savory!

BEER & WINE:

We proudly serve craft beer, ciders, as well as wines by the glass and by the bottle. Grab a glass and enjoy the porch and patio.

SERVICE:

Next to product excellence is customer service. We invite each customer to ask questions, try new drinks, and provide us with feedback at any time! Do you really know the difference between a cappuccino and a latte? Have you ever ordered a shot of espresso alone? We are absolutely committed to open, pleasant customer service and hope you'll feel comfortable exploring the amazing drinks and baked goods we have to offer.

Most importantly, however, the Donkey is symbolic of versatility, intelligence, hard work, determination, and a willingness to take on board the responsibilities and burdens of others (beast of burden). The donkey is an indefatigable worker and personifies the qualities of determination and service. Additionally, just as a horse was often used to portray times of war, the donkey has long portrayed times of peace.
