Insight Gloucestershire

General information

Insight Gloucestershire is a charity dedicated to supporting sight impaired and blind people throughout the County. Originally known as Gloucestershire County Association for the Blind (GCAB), the charity was set up in 1858 to help those with failing eyesight. Records indicate that by 1922, the number being cared for was around 600 people. Today, this local charity provides information and support for over 2500 people with significant sight loss. Unfortunately, there is every indication that, due to an ageing population, these numbers will continue to increase year on year. It is predicted that by 2050, the number of people with sight loss in the UK will be nearly 4 million.

Our Services

• A fully stocked Low Vision Resource Centre selling (at no profit) daily living aids and assistive technology.
• “Drop in” Outreach Service at venues throughout the County.
• Sight Loss Advisors to provide further information on eye conditions and services available for sight-impaired people.
• Twice yearly magazine to keep you informed. Can be sent to you on CD, in large print or braille.
• Computer lessons using specially adapted software.
