Why Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a very effective form of manual therapy, and treatment relieves your pain and improves your mobility.

Osteopathic treatment helps you by treating your joints, muscles and ligaments, using a variety of techniques e.g. joint articulation, joint mobilisation, soft tissue work to muscles, and cranial osteopathy.

Osteopathy is very effective because not only is your immediate local problem diagnosed and treated, but also any predisposing factors are identified and treated i.e. the body is examined as a whole.

This is important because if one part of the body is restricted, then the rest of the body compensates, which can cause pain elsewhere. For example restriction in the upper back may predispose to shoulder and neck pain. Because such wider factors are addressed, this means a better outcome for you.

As well as hands on treatment, advice is given on how to prevent your problem recurring.

An osteopath must complete a full time, four year degree course, which gives them a detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology. This allows diagnosis of your musculoskeletal problem, and screening for potential medical issues.

A qualified osteopath must register with the General Osteopathic Council, a regulated body which maintains high standards and continual training across the profession.
