The (Old Auction) Mart was once the centre of East Linton - a bustling agricultural destination; a place to meet, trade, learn and chew the fat. Our aim is simple, to bring it back to life. A thriving community hub for today’s East Lothian, one that celebrates, embraces and reflects the diversity within it.

Agriculture runs deep here and it remains the starting point for us. Our shop showcases the best of local produce including our home-grown vegetables, eggs and produce. The cafe is perfect for a light bite and is a platform for local artists and makers. We encourage customers to feed the chickens and invite local suppliers, makers and artists to get in touch. Our market days includes a car boot sale and an artisan and makers market.

We’re at the start of our journey and there are lots of exiting plans for the site as well as opportunities for the community.

The renovation of The Mart building will become the stunning centrepiece, housing events, performances and workshops. The Tin Shed is another flexible space – larger and rougher around the edges but bursting with character. We also plan on developing the surrounding site to include a children's play park, improving the growing spaces, eco-holiday accommodation and introducing more farmyard animals!

Learning is key, and the long-term strategy is to develop relationships with local schools, community groups and residential homes, offering a range of educational and social engagement projects.

Supporting local businesses and artists is another priority and we are developing a range of studios, workshops and workspaces available at affordable rates. We have a small roster of resident companies, which we plan to grow to 20 over the next three years.

Our ambitious plans aim to put The Mart, once again, at the heart of the community - a place that is cherished, well-used and instils pride within its range of visitors and residents.
