Quarry Bank Company Information
General information
Quarry Bank is one of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites and the inspiration for Channel 4's The Mill. When you visit you will step back in time and soak up the atmosphere of the Industrial Revolution. A visit to the cotton mill, powered by Europe's most powerful working waterwheel will certainly stimulate your senses. The clatter of machinery and hiss of steam engines make an astonishing noise. Learn how cotton was produced at the Mill for nearly 200 years and watch the demonstrations of hand spinning and weaving. Take a guided tour of the Apprentice House and learn about the lives of the pauper children who worked in the Mill.
Visit the stunning garden, the Greg family's picturesque valley retreat adjoining the Mill. Stroll to Styal village, built by the family to house the mill workers and still a thriving community, or explore the woodland walks along the River Bollin.
Sample the delicious menu in the Mill Cafe and don't forget to visit our latest temporary exhibition. Take home one of our Mill produced glass cloths. These are for sale in our newly refurbished Mill Shop, which opens on 29th January 2011
