We are very pleased to have this opportunity to introduce you to Abbey Wood Lodge care home. It is situated in the heart of the 112 years old, award winning Coronation Park which covers 20 acres of green space. We are close to bus routes and the railway station and just a short stroll from Ormskirk’s historic Market in the heart of West Lancashire steeped in history and character.
This purpose built care home provides both short and long term social care for older people who are physically frail and older people who have mental health needs such as Alzheimer's disease.
Abbey Wood Lodge also offers a care service that aims to support people who are well enough to leave hospital, but may need some extra support on their way to returning to their own home.
Whilst some people may benefit from additional input in care provision in their own home, others may benefit from a short stay in a residential setting either following hospitalisation or to avoid an admission in the first place.
These short stays are far different to the old concept of convalescence but are forward thinking enabling services that have appropriate discharge at the forefront of care planning designed to rehabilitate and enable people to return home safely and maintain their independence for longer.

Our bespoke Care Home has all the attributes and comforts of a first class hotel with the additional facilities and security of professional care. It has 61 single bedrooms, 60 with en-suite shower facilities. Each room is bright and airy, decorated and furnished to the highest standard. The home has been designed with the latest technologies and techniques to guarantee a welcoming and ‘dementia-friendly’ environment. There is a sophisticated call bell technology throughout the home, smart televisions, VOIP telephone system, Wi-Fi access, fully equipped hair dressing salon with nail bar and a thoughtfully designed Life skills kitchen. Two passenger lifts make all floors accessible with full wheelchair access. Dining rooms and lounges benefit from views to the front, side and rear overlooking the park.
Abbey Wood Lodge has one simple philosophy; provide all of the tools, equipment, facilities and education necessary for staff to deliver the highest level of aged care service. The Abbey Wood Lodge management team are always available to onsite staff and are more than happy to assist residents and families in whatever we can.
When a loved one is diagnosed with dementia it can be an overwhelming experience. There are more than 820,000 people living with dementia in the UK and every 3.2 minutes someone else will develop this debilitating condition; these figures are set to double within 30 years.
At Abbey Wood Lodge we understand the demands this condition places on families when loved ones are living with dementia. Our personalised care programmes and state of the art home has been designed with industry leading research and experts in the dementia care field.
The thoughtful, contemporary interiors provides lighting that has been set to standards which helps residents with cognitive impairments. Our communal spaces, although spacious and airy, have been organised into smaller ‘households’ to encourage residents to socialise in smaller numbers and instil confidence. These interactive spaces provide visual stimulus and improved orientation which include hand-picked images, vintage posters and original artwork from eras our residents will recognise.
As a dementia care provider, we appreciate the effects that dementia has on your loved one and so we try to make them as comfortable and at home as we can. We’ll do this by finding out what your loved one likes and dislikes and we’ll personalise our care and daily activities to their individual preferences.
We celebrate the person they have been and continue to be by identifying hobbies they enjoy, the careers they dedicated their lives to, music they love to listen to and family members who they value and care for.
We encourage residents to bring favourite photographs and mementos which will help to trigger happy memories and important milestones in their life. Pieces of furniture from home and other treasured items will help them settle and feel secure. At Abbey Wood Lodge the spacious bedroom suites allows residents to bring those important things with them.
Personal information forms the basis of the way care will be delivered. Activities are tailored to individual abilities and preference to keep residents as mentally and physically fit as possible, this encourages engagement and motivation.
Meals are balanced and nutritious, favourite recipes can be requested as we recognise that these can evoke happy thoughts and feelings of comfort.
The staff at Abbey Wood Lodge are selected for their friendly professional and caring qualities. Our aim is to achieve an atmosphere of harmony where residents can really feel comfortable and at home. We have a full complement of trained staff providing 24 hours a day care for our residents.
With 30 years experience in the health care sector Gaye Clark is the Registered Manager at Abbey Wood Lodge. Gaye’s management of the home is ‘open’ leading by direction to provide a quality service. With a vast knowledge of elderly care Gaye has responsibility for the day-to-day management, administration, recruitment, training for all the staff. Gaye has achieved the Registered Managers Award at NVQ level 4 in adult care, NVQ level 5 in Management, level 3 in Dementia care and level 3 in End of Life care. Gaye is also a Gold Standards Framework facilitator in the principles of End of Life care.
We consider staff training to be very important. We offer continuing training programs to ensure our staffs are fully informed of all up-to-the minute innovations to keep us in the forefront of providing care. Many of our care staff have attained an NVQ at level 2 / 3 in care. All staff within the home will be appropriately qualified to deliver the highest standards of care. A continuous staff-training programme is implemented to ensure that these high standards are maintained in line with the latest initiatives and developments in care practices as may be laid down in appropriate legislation, regulations and the Care Quality Commission guidelines.
