MOT Centre
The vehicle MOT programme is regulated and monitored by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), ensuring that vehicles with a valid MOT certificate meet the required road safety guidelines and environmental standards.
STA Vehicle Centres offer Class 4 (motor cars), Class 5 (mini buses and coaches) and Class 7 (light commercial). Our qualified examiners are equipped to test all types of catalytic converters and diesel engine emissions. We have an commercial truck inspection lane on site for larger vehicles, with a range of additional services including voluntary brake tests, beam sets and multi tests.
On average, a car MOT will take between 45 minutes and an hour. You can wait for the inspection in our reception area, or leave your car with us and we’ll give you a call when it’s ready. Should your vehicle fail its MOT, we issue a VT30 certificate stating the reason for failure. This gives clear information about the fault and what’s needed to rectify the problem for a pass certificate to be issued.
It’s worth knowing that many faults found during an MOTs can be avoided by carrying out simple maintenance. Take a few minutes to check things like tyres, lights and wiper blades before the MOT is due, to give your vehicle the best chance of passing first time.

Roadside Assistance
We operate a 24 hour nationwide vehicle recovery service, and where possible carry out repairs at the scene of a breakdown. Faults can be unpredictable and costly – our aim is to keep disruption to a minimum and get you back on the road as quickly and safely as possible.
Tyres For Cars
As well as the big brands, we also stock an excellent range of high quality mid-range and budget tyres to suit all pockets. We fit all makes and models of cars, vans, trucks and trailers. Pop in for a free tyre check and we’ll fit the best tyre for your vehicle.
Tyre Maintenance
We cannot stress enough the importance of keeping your tyres well maintained, with plenty of tread. Bald tyres will let you down particularly when driving conditions are poor, risking serious injury or death to yourself and your passengers. A legal tyre must be above 1.6mm in depth, in a continuous band over three-quarters of the tyre’s width. It’s vital that you check your tyres regularly and make sure any external damage is thoroughly checked by a tyre specialist such as STA, to prevent sudden failure.
Tyres – Safety First
Did you know that you are not insured when driving on illegal tyres? If you are involved in an accident and it turns out that you have been driving on tyres with a tread depth lower than 1.6mm (legal limit in the UK) you could find yourself paying out a lot of money on repairs and hefty fines. Worn tyres significantly impede your car’s performance – low tread depths reduce the effectiveness of steering, acceleration and braking. A few minutes checking your tyres could save the lives of you and your family!
Free Tyre Check
We recommend you check your tyres regularly – at least once a fortnight. If you’re not sure, just pop in and we’ll check your tyres for you.
5 Point Tyre Check
TyreSafe.org has devised a five point tyre check that we strongly recommend you complete:
1. Check overall condition of tyres, including inner and outer sidewalls.
2. Check tyre tread depth.
3. Check all tyre pressures.
4. Check signs of irregular wear.
5. Check and examine the spare tyre.
Please contact STA Vehicle Centres on 01952 587285 if you require any advice on tyre safety. We are here to help.
Tyres for Trucks
We supply tyres from all manufacturers, and we re-cut and repair tyres on site. We also provide roadside assistance within a 50 miles radius.
Tyres and the Law
The law requires vehicle drivers and owners to maintain tyres in a good and safe condition. The main points within Construction and Use Regulation 27 are:
• The tyre must be suitable for the purpose the vehicle is being used.
• The tyre must be suitably inflated for the purpose the vehicle is being used.
• The tyre must not have a cut, in excess of 25mm or 10% of the tyre section width whichever is the greater, which is deep enough to reach the tyre’s internal structure.
• The tyre must not have a lump, bulge or tear caused by separation or partial failure of its structure.
• The tyre must not have any ply or cord exposed.
• The tyre tread depth must be a minimum of 1mm measured in a band comprising the central 75% of the tread width and continuous around the tyre circumference.
• The tyre must be maintained in a condition so that it is fit for the purpose the vehicle or trailer is being used and must not have any defect which may cause danger to the road surface or damage to persons in or on the vehicle, or other road users.
FOR EACH AND EVERY TYRE OFFENCE THERE IS A MAXIMUM FINE OF £2,500, WITH DISCRETIONARY DISQUALIFICATION AND A COMPULSORY DRIVING LICENCE ENDORSEMENT OF 3 PENALTY POINTS.
