Kimpton Art Show

The Kimpton Art Show is an exhibition and sale of art work and is a major feature of the Kimpton May Festival, which brings many hundreds of visitors to the village. The Art Show takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the Grade I listed parish church.

Each year, the Kimpton Art Show brings together 100 artists from across the region and locally; their works now hang in many parts of the world. Exhibits typically include a range of media such as oil, watercolour, acrylic, photography and mixed media. Work ranges from the traditional to the modern as we aim to show a broad range to appeal to as wide a buying public as possible. The Show offers an opportunity for new artists to test their talent as well as for those who already have a well-established reputation to make a very valued return.

Last year, we were delighted to include a number of new artists who have exhibited with Herts. Open Studios. We also welcomed artists in Other Media with their high quality displays of glassware, stained glass, clay, sculpture, original ceramics, turned wood and textiles. With works from £20 there is something for everyone’s budget.

At various times during the weekend, local musicians, amateur and professional, play informally at the front of the church, thus adding a very living experience to the occasion.

The Opening Night is Friday 2nd May 6.00pm – 9.00pm. Admission is payable on the door at £5.00, and includes a complimentary glass of wine. Admission on Saturday, Sunday and Monday is £1 with children free.

The Art Show, along with the May Festival itself, was set up to provide funds for the restoration of the church, following the collapse of the Dacre Chapel roof.

The roof has long since been re-built and although much restoration has taken place, an ongoing programme is necessary in order to preserve the village’s most historic building for future generations. Proceeds now go also to support the village Memorial Hall and other local causes.
